Arts Avenue’s Intersection Dance Team & Precision Performance Company present: “You Are Special” - a Contemporary Ballet adaptation of the original book by Max Lucado. 
 
 “I chose this show because of how relative it is to modern day society, and because I know that no matter what your age or background is that you can find depth and connection to it. For me, dance is a way of expression and storytelling. The dances in the show were choreographed to make you feel something and convey truth: YOU ARE ENOUGH. Society makes us believe that our worth is defined by subjective things- like labels chosen by peers, how many likes we get on social media, and the ideal self-image constructed by cultural norms. Similarly, we are differentiated in a negative way due to various religions, cultures, practices, etc. The truth is that we are not all made the same! Our differences make us unique and beautiful. Growing up my mom would always tell me that the opinions of others only matter if I let their words matter to me. When you know that you are doing the right thing, standing up for what you believe in a respectful manner, and being true to YOU, then you are not letting those stars and dots stick. This can be easy to forget as adults, but it is even harder for youth who are growing up in a world of tainted social media and warped reality. I do hope that you will come see this message brought to life with the artistry of dance.
